Virginia Wesleyan University is one of 50 organizations included in the first Civic 50 Hampton Roads. An initiative of Points of Light in partnership with VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads, the Civic 50 is designed to recognize and celebrate the 50 most community-minded companies in Hampton Roads. Points of Light is the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service.
The recognition sets the bar for civic engagement and serves as a guiding light for companies committed to making a positive social impact in their community and within their organizations. Dr. Keith Moore, Senior Vice President; Bethany Tsiaras, Director of Civic Engagement and Service Learning; and Kayleigh Poggioli, Assistant to the Senior Vice President accepted the recognition on behalf of Virginia Wesleyan from Stephanie Gorham, Executive Director of VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads.
The Civic 50 Hampton Roads survey has played a crucial role in helping organizations like Virginia Wesleyan become more active leaders in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It provides valuable benchmarking data that enables organizations to better understand and enhance their community impact. The recognition acknowledges each organization’s dedication to the four dimensions of community engagement: Investment of Resources, Integration Across Business Functions, Institutionalization Through Policies and Systems, and Impact Measurement.
“At Virginia Wesleyan, we are honored to be part of the Civic 50 Hampton Roads and remain committed to our mission of fostering positive change in the community while continually improving our corporate social responsibility initiatives,” said VWU President Scott D. Miller. “We look forward to continuing our efforts to create a more vibrant and inclusive Hampton Roads region for all.”
