VWU Student Receives FEA Scholarship to Study in Amman, Jordan

Selena Chambers on the Virginia Wesleyan Campus, March 2018

Virginia Wesleyan University is pleased to announce that Ms. Selena Chambers ‘19 (International Studies) has been awarded a $4,500 scholarship by the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) to study abroad in Amman, Jordan with the School for International Training (SIT) in fall 2018. Chambers was selected from 2,300 applicants, representing 517 US colleges and universities.

In Amman, Chambers will study Arabic, international relations, peace studies, and research methods. She will also undertake an internship with a local organization or business.

FEA offers scholarships of up to $10,000 to enable underrepresented students to study abroad from four weeks to a full academic year. Recipients come from a variety of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and 91% are first-generation college students.

Chambers’ FEA award will be supplemented by Virginia Wesleyan University’s own Global Scholars Program, a competitive program that supports semester study abroad. Launched in 2012, the Global Scholars Program is made possible by a gift from an anonymous donor who wishes to expand study abroad by funding a semester of foreign study immersion to students to broaden their intellectual and cultural horizons. It is open to Virginia Wesleyan students in all majors.

"With the help of this scholarship from FEA, combined with VWU's Global Scholars award, I am confident that I will be able to get the most out of my study abroad experience,” Chambers expresses. “In particular, I’m anticipating internship travel expenses, and I hope to use these funds towards that.”
