Students fulfill part of their Basic Language Competency Requirement by achieving the Foreign Language Proficiency standard. The standard can be satisfied either by completing coursework through the 213 level course or by being exempted through satisfactory completion of high school foreign language courses. Please refer to the Foreign Language Proficiency Guide (orange) for a complete list of ways to satisfy this requirement.

- AP test score of 4 or higher in French Language, German Language, Latin, or Spanish Language exam
- score of at least 600 on the CEEB Foreign Language Achievement test
- transfer credit for college level coursework through the intermediate level
- completion of language studies through VWU’s 111/112/213 courses
