Accepting Your Awards

Entrance Counseling

If you accept the subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans on your award letter, you are required to complete Entrance Loan Counseling online at studentaid.gov. Entrance Counseling will introduce you to the many aspects of Direct Loans, including interest rates, repayment plans, and loan eligibility. Until Entrance Counseling is completed, the government will not disburse your Direct Loan funds. If you have borrowed subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans in the past, you are not required to complete Entrance Counseling again.

Master Promissory Note (MPN)

If you accept the subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans on your award letter, you are required to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) online at studentaid.gov. The MPN is the loan agreement between you and the federal government. Until the MPN is completed, the government will not disburse your Direct Loan funds. If you have borrowed Direct Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized loans in the past and your MPN has not expired, you are not required to complete another MPN.

Verification

If your FAFSA was selected for verification, by either the Department of Education or VWU, you must complete the required verification worksheet and submit all required documents before your aid will be disbursed to you. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you have questions regarding verification.

Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant

If you are a Virginia resident, you may be eligible for the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG). To apply, you must complete the VTAG application and turn it into VWU's Financial Aid Office by July 31.

Work Study Program

If Work Study is listed on your award letter, you are eligible to apply for a Federal Work Study position. Please log in to WebAdvisor to apply beginning the first Monday in August.
Please note that in order to participate in the program, you must apply and be selected for a position. Positions are limited so it is important to apply early to be selected for an interview.
