I teach courses in both the Sociology and Criminal Justice programs. Most of my courses feature hands-on active learning. Students who are interested in majoring in either CJ or Sociology at Virginia Wesleyan should please feel free to email me or to come talk with me. Any student interested in grad school should definitely talk with me (and other professors) as soon as possible. We can help you find the right school, increase your odds of admission, and save you time and money.

I am always open to collaborative research projects with VWC students and with professional colleagues at other schools.

Current research interests include (but are not limited to):

  • Transracial individuals and groups
  • Ethnic nationalist and extremist social movements in the US.
  • Terrorism and fear of terrorism.
  • Adult criminal consequences of childhood abuse and other adverse childhood experiences.
  • Racial boundaries in US history.
  • Gangs, organized crime, and white collar crime.
