Application Process
Applications for Virginia Wesleyan Environmental Institute: Summer Scholars will open on March 1, 2020. The application process for this camp contains two elements:
- Fill out and submit the Online Application Form. This online form will require the following:
- A valid parent email and phone number for communication purposes.
Note: This and all other information collected on this form will only be used for camp purposes and will not be shared with anyone else. - Demographic Information
- Interests and Hobbies
- Current GPA (informal- no transcript needed)
- 500 word (max) essay: Describe why you would like to take part in Summer Scholars, what you hope to take from the experiences, and how your strengths and characteristics may enhance the overall camp experience for all.
- A valid parent email and phone number for communication purposes.
- All applicants must have a recent teacher submit a recommendation via an Online Recommendation Form.
Selection Process
Virginia Wesleyan Environmental Institute: Summer Scholars is designed for rising ninth-grade girls with an initial passion for environmental science and related disciplines. Program Directors are seeking applicants who enjoy the outdoors, are inquisitive about the natural world, and often ponder contemporary environmental issues and concepts.
Due to a limited number of openings in this camp, only 20 applicants from around the Hampton Roads area will be selected. All application materials are due by May 1, 2020 and will serve to assist Program Directors in the selection process. The application review process will begin on May 1, 2020, and all applicants will be notified via email by May 25, 2020, as to whether they were accepted.
