VWU Hosts Virginia Festival of Jewish Film Screening (02-24-2025)
Virginia Wesleyan University hosted a screening of October H8te on February 23 at the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center, presented as part of the Virginia Festival of Jewish Film and the Israel Today series. Sponsored by the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater, this powerful documentary explores the rise of antisemitism following October 7, 2023, examining its impact on college campuses, social media, and communities across the U.S.
Following the screening, a panel discussion moderated by Jonathan Zur, President & CEO of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, provided deeper insights into the film’s themes and their relevance to the local community. Panelists included Dr. Craig Wansink (Joan and Macon Brock Jr. Director of the VWU Robert Nusbaum Center), Ben Rosenthal (ODU Hillel), Virginia Beach City Councilman Joash Schulman, and Dr. Amy Milligan (ODU Institute for Jewish Studies).
As an institution committed to inclusion and meaningful dialogue, Virginia Wesleyan was proud to partner in hosting this important conversation. Events like these reflect our mission to foster understanding and engage in critical discussions that promote respect and empathy across communities.
