Virginia Wesleyan welcomes new Chaplain

The Rev. Florence F. Brooks has more than 15 years of experience and has worked with individuals of all ages.

Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – The Office of the President at Virginia Wesleyan College has announced the selection of the Reverend Florence F. Brooks as the new College Chaplain, effective August 1.

Florence Brooks“I am thrilled about Florence’s arrival,” said President Billy Greer. “She brings a great deal of energy to this position, and she understands a liberal arts college, since she is a graduate of one. I look forward to having her as a colleague, and I believe that our students are in for a treat.”

Her pastoral appointments have included: Nottoway-Lunenburg Charge, Farmville District; Bon Air United Methodist Church, Richmond, Va.; and Bethel United Methodist Church, Ashland, Va. In 1994, she completed her Clinical Pastoral Education at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va.

Brooks earned her Master’s of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., and her Bachelor of Arts from Randolph-Macon Women’s College. She was ordained a Deacon and Elder by the Virginia Conference United Methodist Church.

“I am delighted to serve as Chaplain for Virginia Wesleyan College,” said Brooks. “I have already experienced the enthusiasm and energy that make this College special. I look forward to connecting with the community and providing Virginia Wesleyan students, faculty and staff spiritual life opportunities.”

Brooks is married to Burt, Senior Pastor at Baylake United Methodist Church. They have four children, Ben, Clay, Sam and Kelli.

Brooks replaces Virginia Wesleyan’s former Chaplain of 12 years, the Rev. Robert “Chappy” Chapman, who assumed a new charge on the Eastern Shore.
