Linear Diophantine Equations vs. the Penny
Virginia Wesleyan students Laura Robusto and Tyler Searcy presented their summer research at the Mathematical Association of America's national summer meeting, MathFest 2015, in Washington, D.C. on August 7th. Their talk, entitled "Linear Diophantine Equations vs. the Penny,” explored a number theoretical approach to solving change-making problems. The techniques involved in solving change-making problems tie to many areas of mathematics and have applications in resource allocation problems.
