The Adventure of Learning Continues with the Westminster/Wesleyan Lifelong Learning Institute

A season of discovery awaits—spring into learning with engaging new classes

University News | February 6, 2025

Virginia Wesleyan University is excited to announce the Spring 2025 course offerings for the Westminster/Wesleyan Lifelong Learning Institute, a unique educational partnership between Virginia Wesleyan University and Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay. This program provides members of Westminster-Canterbury with the opportunity to take engaging non-credit courses in a variety of disciplines, including history, political science, psychology, religion, and the arts.

Taught by esteemed Virginia Wesleyan faculty, these courses are offered at no cost to Westminster-Canterbury members and are available both on-site and on the Virginia Wesleyan campus. Participants also enjoy complimentary access to University facilities, plays, concerts, lectures, and athletic events.

Coordinated by Dr. Ben Fraser, Westminster-Canterbury Fellow for Religious Studies and Lifelong Learning, in collaboration with Virginia Wesleyan’s Robert Nusbaum Center, this initiative is a vital component of Virginia Wesleyan University Global Campus. Each semester, a diverse selection of courses is offered, with a significant focus on faith-related topics.

This spring, participants can explore a variety of thought-provoking subjects. For those interested in religious studies, "Sustenance, Spaces, Symbols, and Souls: Religions’ Tangled Threads" will delve into how different faiths influence daily life, from dietary practices to sacred spaces and funeral customs. For those curious about constitutional law, "Fresh Fights About Constitutional Rights" will examine modern legal debates surrounding religious freedom, free speech, and equality.

Other engaging courses include "Taking Care of Our Brain!" which provides insights into memory and cognitive health, "Early Church History: How It All Began," and a five-part exploration of the iconic entertainers of "The Rat Pack." With a broad selection of courses covering historical movements, political issues, and cultural phenomena, the Westminster/Wesleyan Lifelong Learning Institute continues to offer enriching educational experiences to its members.
