A Big Weekend Planned at Virginia Wesleyan April 7-8
Spring Alumni event, VWC Day, Seafood Party, Strike Out Cancer and Marlins Make a Difference

The VWC campus will be buzzing this spring weekend with many events for alumni, students, faculty, staff and guests. On Friday and Saturday, there’s the inaugural Spring Alumni Weekend with lots of food, festivities and fun including a Class of 1992 reunion. VWC Day Open House will welcome many prospective students and their families on Saturday. Also on Saturday is the 35th Annual Seafood Party in the Dell, the annual Strike Out Cancer fundraiser put on by VWC Softball and Marlins Make a Difference Day organized by the Office of Community Service. Spring Alumni Weekend
On April 7-8, old traditions combine with new as the College celebrates its first Spring Alumni Weekend. Relax and reunite with faculty, friends and Marlin alumni during the 35th Annual Seafood Party in the Dell (see below), featuring the inaugural Scroll Signing ceremony commemorating the 25th graduation anniversary of the Class of 1992. The weekend will also include tours of the nearly completed Greer Environmental Sciences Center, various athletic competitions, and an alumni social on the water at Chick's Oyster Bar. 35th Annual Seafood Party in the Dell
Bring your appetite and maybe a few extra napkins for this annual outdoor event marking the spring season. Alumni, students, faculty and staff, family and friends celebrate an annual Marlin tradition enjoying seafood and music performed by the Dustin Furlow Duo on Batten Lawn from 5-7 p.m. Alumni and their families will receive a special meal price of $5 per person. In addition to seafood, hot dogs and hamburgers will be served.
VWC Day Open House
Excitement is building for the Class of 2021! On Saturday, April 8, Virginia Wesleyan welcomes hundreds of prospective Marlins and their family members to campus for the final VWC Day Open House of the academic year. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with faculty to learn about academic programs, ask questions about financial aid, admissions, athletics, extracurricular activities, residence life and more. Campus tours, parent and student sessions, an academic department fair, lunch and other activities round out the agenda. Learn more.
Strike Out Cancer
The Virginia Wesleyan softball program will host its Ninth Annual Strike Out Cancer event on Saturday, April 8, at 12:30 p.m. In partnership with the American Cancer Society, Strike Out Cancer has raised more than $80,000 to date. This year’s goal is set at $17,587, which would bring the total raised to $100,000. The event will be filled with fun for the entire family, including food, music, activities for all ages, and a silent auction. Double-headers will be played by both the Marlin softball and baseball teams, and the men's and women's lacrosse teams will play at home also. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the gate. Strike Out Cancer is hosted in memory of Head Softball Coach Brandon Elliott’s mother, Elaine F. Sears.
Marlins Make a Difference Day
Organized by the Office of Community Service, this semi-annual day of service will take approximately 60 Marlins into our community on Saturday, April 8, to address social needs in our region. Partners to date include the YWCA of South Hampton Roads, Billy the Kidden Cat Rescue, ForKids Inc., and Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation. Volunteers will enjoy breakfast and lunch together to celebrate volunteerism and share what they’ve learned.
