What is your favorite BHC-related memory?
My journey as a student at the Batten Honors College (BHC) has been an incredible one, with numerous experiences that have impacted my life positively. Among my cherished memories at BHC was a study-away trip to Belize, where I learned how to appreciate and understand nature better. Before this trip, I appreciated nature, but never paid attention to how it works. However, after the trip, I developed a love for exploring the outdoors and understanding life's little networks.
What is your most significant takeaway from being a member of the Batten Honors College?
Being a member of the Batten Honors College has enabled me to make personal connections with my professors, which has been an essential takeaway from this experience. I have received guidance and help that I never experienced before joining BHC.
What is the most prominent skill that you have gained as a BHC student?
One of the most prominent skills I have gained from being a BHC student is listening. This skill has been crucial in my academic and personal life. This skill has been particularly beneficial during class discussions, where it allows me to understand the perspectives and ideas of my classmates and professors better. Additionally, active listening helps me to gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter, identify gaps in my knowledge, and clarify any confusion I may have. Finally, by practicing empathetic listening, I create a safe and inclusive environment that fosters open communication and mutual respect. What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to join the Peace Corps to serve people who need it the most. I believe that this experience will enable me to make a positive impact on people's lives while gaining practical skills that will be useful in my future academic and professional pursuits. After completing my undergraduate degree in Biology and Recreational Therapy, my long-term plan is to pursue a Master's and Doctorate in Recreational Therapy. I am passionate about using recreational activities to promote health, wellness, and recovery for individuals with disabilities or illnesses. Pursuing graduate studies in this field will allow me to advance my knowledge and skills, as well as qualify me for advanced positions in the field. I am particularly interested in exploring the potential of adventure-based therapies, such as rock climbing or wilderness expeditions, to promote personal growth and development. With my advanced education and experience, I hope to make a meaningful contribution to the field of recreational therapy and improve the lives of individuals and communities.
