Twelfth Class of Athletic Hall of Fame Announced
Virginia Wesleyan University has selected the twelfth class of its Athletic Hall of Fame. Members will be inducted during a special ceremony on Saturday, February 1. Tori Higginbotham-Abbey ’14 (softball), Jessica Edelman Gosnell ’13 (soccer), Nancy Mattox Moore ’00 (basketball and softball), and Chris Yeager ’94 (soccer) will be recognized along with benefactors Jane P. Batten and George Y. and Sue Birdsong and the Birdsong families. Read more and register to attend.

VWU President Scott D. Miller, who also serves as president of the National Association of Schools and Colleges of the United Methodist Church, is quoted in several articles regarding the proposed creation of a U.S. Regional Conference of the United Methodist Church. Articles include " Proposed split of United Methodist Church over LGBT issues is welcomed by Methodist college leaders" in Inside Higher Ed, and " Methodist Educational Leaders Endorse U.S. Regional Conference" and " Methodist Education Association to Expand Membership Beyond the UMC" on the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry website. President Miller's column, " Christmas wishes for higher ed ," was in featured the December 22 edition of The Virginian-Pilot. He is also quoted in The Virginian-Pilot article, " College enrollment is falling, national study says. But Virginia is 'holding our own.'" Award recipients Joan Brock (VWU Trustee Emerita) and Howard Kern (VWU Trustee) were mentioned in Inside Business' " Urban League's MLK awards recognize those who make a difference." Virginia Wesleyan's 2020 Athletic Hall of Fame honorees are featured in The Virginian-Pilot article, " Virginia Wesleyan names four to Athletic Hall of Fame."
