Virginia Wesleyan, TCC Formalize Fair Transfer Agreement
In a signing ceremony held at Virginia Wesleyan on February 27, VWU President Scott D. Miller and TCC President Gregory T. DeCinque formalized the Fair Transfer Guarantee concurrent enrollment agreement. This fall, TCC graduates with an associate of arts or science will enter Virginia Wesleyan with junior class status. All lower-level general education requirements-including foreign language-will be deemed complete, allowing students to focus on courses for their major and upper-level elective credits necessary for their bachelor's degree. Field of Dreams: Dedication of Tom and Betty Broyles Field at TowneBank Park
A dedication ceremony for Virginia Wesleyan University's new Tom and Betty Broyles Field / TowneBank Park was held on March 12. Former VWU Trustee Bob Aston, Executive Chairman of TowneBank, helped cut the ribbon and threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the new complex for VWU's back-to-back national championship softball team. New Signage for Living Landscapes
Norfolk Botanical Garden (NBG) has installed signage on campus to identify plants throughout the 145,000-square-foot living landscapes that surround the Greer Environmental Sciences Center. The landscape, which is managed and cared for by NBG, is inspired by the ecosystems of the Eastern Shore and contains nearly 60 different plant species. Miller's monthly column appeared in The Virginian-Pilot: "Schools taking lead in global warming fight"; Dr. Miller was also quoted in The Virginian-Pilot "We are not happy with the church" and Inside Higher Ed "The Dilemma for Methodist Colleges"; His column, "When Celebrating Success is not Enough: Avoiding Complacency in Enrollment Management," appeared in Enrollment Manager. The University's new Fair Transfer Guarantee agreement with Tidewater Community College made headlines in Inside Business, southsidedaily.com, and TCC Today. VWU's LEED Gold Certified Greer Environmental Sciences Center is featured prominently on USGBC.org in Virginia ranked eighth in the 2018 Top 10 States for LEED; Associate Professor of Political Science Leslie Caughell was featured in a Richmond Times-Dispatch article about Gov.
